Drive Me Crazy

Grade: C-

Drive Me Crazy is the teen movie of the week. It’s a boy meets girl romance, culminating not at the senior prom, but at a centennial dance. Either way, it’s the same, tired old story with zero imagination.

The difference in this one is its two lead players. One is Melissa Joan Hart of TV’s "Sabrina, the Teen-Age Witch." The other is Adrien Grenier, who appeared in last year’s The Adventures of Sebastian Cole. Both do well working with a predictable, formulaic script.

High school seniors Nicole (Hart) and Chase (Grenier) both have a problem. Neither has a date for the big centennial dance. Nicole longs for Brad (Gabriel Carpenter), a basketball player. Brad’s interest lies with another girl. Chase, a pretty off-beat guy, has just been dumped by his girlfriend, Dulcie (Ali Larter).

By the way, Nicole and Chase are next-door neighbors. Their second story bedroom windows are barely ten feet apart. The funniest scene takes place when they talk to each other on cell phones, only to open the windows to continue the conversation in person.

Nicole hashes a plan for them to start dating each other to make Brad and Dulcie jealous. Nicole takes Chase to the mall for a wardrobe makeover. No surprise here as both begin to fall for each other, much to the chagrin of their chums.

That’s the whole plot, accompanied by the usual loud rock music soundtrack, available in tape or CD at a store near you.
